simpl. is an independent journal about workwear, bags, footwear and everyday objects. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit simpl.asia, why we collect it, and the choices you have. It is written to be read, not to hide anything.
Who we are
simpl. is published by Wern, based in Malaysia. For anything in this policy, contact team@simpl.asia.
What we collect
- Usage data. Pages viewed, approximate location derived from IP address, device and browser type, referring page, and time on page. Collected through Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity.
- Interaction data. Microsoft Clarity records anonymised session replays and heatmaps so we can see which layouts work. Form fields are masked by default; we do not record what you type into them.
- Subscription data. If you subscribe to the journal, Ghost stores your email address and subscription status. If you create a member account, we also store the profile details you provide.
- Correspondence. If you email us, we keep the message and our reply.
- Technical data. Server logs record IP address, requested URL, timestamp and user agent for security and troubleshooting.
We do not collect payment details, and we do not buy personal data from third parties.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use first-party cookies for essential site function (for example, keeping you signed in to a member account) and analytics cookies set by Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity. Analytics cookies help us understand which articles are read and how the site performs. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the journal remains readable if you do.
Why we use this data
- To operate and secure the site.
- To understand what is read, so we can improve what we publish.
- To send the newsletter or account emails you asked for.
- To answer your messages.
- To measure whether affiliate links are used, where an article contains them.
Where the GDPR or a similar law applies, we rely on our legitimate interest in running and improving a publication, on your consent for analytics cookies and newsletter emails, and on the performance of a contract where you hold a member account. You may withdraw consent at any time.
Who we share it with
We share the minimum necessary with service providers that host and operate the site:
- Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity — usage analytics.
- Resend — delivery of transactional email such as subscription confirmations and password resets.
- Our hosting provider — servers and backups.
- Affiliate networks and merchants — only when you click a disclosed affiliate link, so a referral can be attributed. We never pass your identity to them; the network sets its own cookie.
We do not sell personal data.
How long we keep it
Analytics data is retained for up to 14 months. Newsletter and member records are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Server logs are kept briefly for security purposes and then discarded. Emails are kept as long as needed to handle the matter.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete the personal data we hold about you, to object to processing, and to withdraw consent. Email team@simpl.asia and we will respond within a reasonable period. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
International transfers
Our providers operate globally, so data may be processed outside your country. Where required, transfers rely on the providers' standard contractual clauses.
Children
The journal is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.
Affiliate links
Some articles may contain affiliate links, disclosed in the article. If you buy through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate status never changes what we publish or how we describe a product.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS and access to administrative systems is restricted. No system is perfect; if we become aware of a breach affecting your data, we will notify affected people where the law requires it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, we will update the date at the top and, where appropriate, note the change on the site.
