The colour references are easy to spot. The part worth returning to later is underneath: Danner’s new Land Cruiser boots are specified with replaceable soles.

Released in Japan on 16 October 2026, the collaboration gives the Field R two versions. Urban takes its black-and-silver cues from the Land Cruiser 200. Overland looks to the 60 series, translating its two-tone bodywork and side stripes into a more colourful combination. Each pair is priced at ¥39,600 including Japanese tax.

Both use the same basic specification: waterproof leather, a GORE-TEX lining, an original Vibram sole and an OrthoLite insole. Those are the makers’ published details; they tell us what is being offered, rather than how the boots have performed in our own use.

There is also a removable zipper unit, supplied with extra laces. Leave it fitted for the zip-front appearance or remove it and lace the boots conventionally. The two arrangements change the face of the boot quite noticeably in the official photographs.

The Toyota announcement explicitly lists sole replacement for both versions. For a pair intended to stay in rotation, that is a useful starting point. Before buying, it would be worth asking the selling shop about the repair route, current costs and which replacement soles it can arrange. Those practical details will matter long after the collaboration’s launch week.

The black Urban is the quieter choice beside work trousers. Overland lets the stripe colours carry more of the conversation. Either way, fit should make the decision before the vehicle reference does.

Danner’s release notice lists selected Danner, ABC-Mart and STUMPTOWN outlets alongside Toyota retail channels in Japan. The official Land Cruiser collection is a starting point for current availability. The announced release does not confirm that every size remains in stock.
