GU and Engineered Garments give the work coat a second length

GU and Engineered Garments give the work coat a second length

Some clothes earn their place by doing more than one job. GU and Engineered Garments have taken that idea quite literally with a work coat that changes length.

General sales of their third collection begin in Japan on 26 October 2026. Called Daily Expedition, the eight-piece range brings familiar workwear shapes into a wardrobe of padded outerwear, fleece and roomy trousers.

The Padded 2WAY Oversized Work Coat is the piece to look at first. Priced at ¥9,990 in Japan, it can be worn long or shortened by folding the hem inward. The shorter setting gives it the proportions of a coverall jacket. It is a useful detail to inspect in person: how neatly the folded fabric sits will matter as much as the idea itself.

GU specifies polyester ripstop for the shell, with a three-layer bonded construction and padding. The brand also describes water-repellent and wind-resistant properties. A corduroy collar and generous pockets keep the appearance familiar, even with that adjustable hem.

There is a smaller arrival alongside the clothing. The ¥2,990 2WAY Tote Bag combines nylon, corduroy and boa panels, with a shoulder strap and pockets inside and out. The contrast in textures gives it something to work with beside plain trousers or a jacket already showing a little wear.

The coat and bag are worth considering separately. A useful addition should get along with what is already in the cupboard; there is no need to dress in the whole collection to appreciate one well-placed pocket or a different proportion.

GU’s Japanese announcement confirms the launch through GU stores and its online shop. The official collection page is the place to check the full lineup and local availability when sales open.
