Loon’r’s Sidekick is a boot for the short, cold trips that do not call for a full hiking setup. Featured in GearJunkie’s 23 October emerging-gear roundup, it combines a moulded lower with a lined upper and an uncomplicated cuff strap. The maker’s current page says the black Midnight Disco version ships now.
A practical split in materials
The important distinction is where the weather protection sits. Loon’r specifies a waterproof, one-piece EVA lower, paired with a synthetic upper described as water-resistant. That is not a claim that the whole boot is waterproof, and it should not be read as one.
The fixed faux-shearling lining gives the Sidekick its winter character. A rip strap at the cuff opens the upper for entry, then closes it around the leg. The official photographs show the same substantial lower wrapping around the toe and heel.

Check the size, not just the headline weight
The weight changes with size. Loon’r’s table runs from 250 to 346 grams; the 289-gram figure applies specifically to M7/W8. That makes a size-specific comparison more useful than treating one number as universal.
The maker positions the Sidekick for cold-weather use, but we have not wear-tested it or independently verified a temperature limit. Think winter errands and camp-side convenience rather than a demonstrated substitute for technical footwear.

Price and availability
The current US price is US$119.95. Midnight Disco and Moss Pit variants are marked available in the official catalogue checked on 26 October, though this is not a completed checkout or a guarantee of later stock.
The fresh editorial hook is the 23 October coverage and current shipping information, not a verified first-sale date. Malaysian retail availability and landed pricing have not been established.
