One small pocket can change the expression of a jacket. On Sugar Cane’s SC15920, the watch pocket sits at an angle on the left chest. It gives an otherwise straightforward indigo work coat a slightly uneven, useful-looking face.
The coat appears in Toyo Enterprise’s 13 October arrival listing and HINOYA’s new-arrival article from 15 October. The reference is an early twentieth-century work coat, with details that make more sense when seen up close.

A different sort of denim layer
HINOYA lists 10.5oz denim made from 85% cotton and 15% sugarcane fibre. The coat is made in Japan and offered in a One Wash finish. Toyo specifies No.9 warp and No.11 weft yarns, with a different approach to the fabric placement at the collar and front facing.

The front change buttons are another detail to linger over. The official photographs show a retaining ring behind the button, making the attachment visible. Alongside the angled pocket, they give the coat a reason to exist beyond being another dark blue outer layer.
There is room for this kind of jacket in a fairly ordinary wardrobe. A plain tee, straight trousers and familiar shoes would leave the pockets and stitching to do most of the work. If the aim is a relaxed city outfit with some workwear character, the coat offers that without requiring the rest of the clothes to belong to the same period.

Look at the proportions first
The more useful question is where the hem falls and how much room remains for a layer underneath. HINOYA supplies garment measurements for sizes 36 to 44. Compare those with a jacket that already gets worn regularly, especially across the chest and through the sleeves. A historical reference is much easier to enjoy when the shape suits an ordinary day.

The denim also needs some practical consideration. HINOYA warns of indigo transfer through moisture or friction. A pale bag carried against the coat is worth thinking about before the first outing. The possibility of attractive fading does not remove that inconvenience.
This is an arrival preview, so there is no long-term wear verdict here. The attraction is the combination of a familiar coat format and a few specific construction choices. How often it gets reached for will matter more than the novelty of the fibre blend.

HINOYA’s Japan listing is ¥46,200, including local tax in its store article. Sizes 38, 40 and 42 were available online on 21 October 2026. International totals depend on destination taxes, duties and delivery.
