Zpacks’ Down Mittens are built around a clear trade-off: very low carried weight for warmth during quieter moments outdoors, rather than a tough shell for sustained abrasion. The reversible mittens appeared in BIKEPACKING.com’s 23 October Friday Debrief and are currently listed on the maker’s store.
A small layer for the stop
Zpacks specifies 0.51-ounce-per-square-yard Ventum ripstop nylon around RDS-certified, 950-fill-power Muscovy duck down. Those are the maker’s material and certification claims; we have not independently tested the insulation or its performance.
Listed total weights are 20 grams for small, 24 grams for medium and 28 grams for large. The size distinction matters when comparing kit lists: 24 grams is the medium figure, not the weight of every option.

Reversible, with a useful limitation
The Navy/Azure and Black/Orange versions can be reversed. Elasticated cuffs help close the opening, while connecting snaps keep the two mittens together when they are not being worn. Official photographs show both faces rather than two unrelated products.
There is a limit worth keeping prominent: Zpacks explicitly advises against using these mittens with trekking poles because of abrasion. They are better framed as a camp or rest-stop layer than a hard-use glove. No independently verified temperature rating is claimed here.

Current price, not a new launch date
The official US price is US$89.95, with a stated dispatch lead time of one to three business days. All six size-and-colour combinations were marked available in the catalogue when checked on 26 October; checkout and Malaysian delivery were not verified.
The 23 October date belongs to the new-product coverage, not a confirmed launch. The maker’s page metadata predates that report, so it would be misleading to call these a 23 October release.
